Peugeot RCZ View Top Concept by Magna Steyr Shown Ahead of Geneva

The Peugeot RCZ is a car that puts all of its eggs in a styling basket, and thus it attracts a certain kind of buyer – though, it definitely doesn't have the mass appeal of the similar Audi TT or Volkswagen Scirocco.
However, it is bound to get more interesting if Magna Steyr's open-roof version of the RCZ will make it to market with its clever sliding/folding roof mechanism shown in the photos below.

Called ‘View Top’, it features separate glass segments, which are connected with regular textile material, to form a watertight seal. It reportedly takes just 12 seconds to open or close, turning the RCZ into a much more interesting car in the process.

Worth noting is that, since the tapering windscreen pillars have been retained, engineers won't have to add any strengthening beams, as the rigidity is still all there. This means that, if it gets past the concept stage, this car could make a lot more sense than the coupe, as it is more of a cruiser than an actual sports car – and it's always a much more enjoyable experience to cruise in an open-top car.

Another noteworthy aspect is the problem of room in the rear. The coupe version of the RCZ has a rather snazzy-looking ‘double-bubble’ roof, which not only looks cool, but it also offers that extra bit of rear headroom. The car is very tight in the back as it is, so its transformation into a convertible would render the rear seats completely useless.

You will be able to see the open-top RCZ in the metal at this year’s edition of the Geneva Motor Show.

New Peugeot 2008 Small Crossover Detailed in 47 High-Res Photos

Eyeing the likes of the Nissan Juke and Opel/Vauxhall Mokka in the increasingly popular small crossover segment, Peugeot will be heading to the Geneva Motor Show next month to display its new 2008, before it launches the car in several regions around the world, including Europe, Asia and South America.
We received a first taste of the 208-based model in January with the release of the first photos, but the French carmaker is following up today with new images, videos and details, all of which can be found after the break.

Peugeot says the 2008 is its first vehicle to be designed, developed and engineered simultaneously in Europe, China and Latin America. It will also be built in factories located in each of these three regions (France, Brazil and China).

The five-door model is based on lengthened version of the 208 hatchback's platform and measures 4,160mm in length, which makes it 200mm longer than the 208 supermini and 20mm longer than the concept model of the same name from the 2012 Paris Auto Show.

Its exterior design is reminiscent of the 208, albeit with chunkier detailing, a higher ride and protective plastic moldings around the bumpers and side sills to justify its crossover character. Inside, the dashboard is borrowed from the supermini with Peugeot spicing up the trim detailing.

Power comes Peugeot's latest engines including a three-cylinder 1.2-liter petrol unit in 82PS (81hp), 110PS (108hp) and 130PS (128hp) versions, a 1.6-liter VTi petrol with 120PS (118hp), a 1.4-liter diesel rated at 68PS (67hp), and a 1.6-liter diesel available in 92PS (91hp) and 115PS (113hp) flavors.

European sales of the new 2008 will begin in early summer this year.

2014 Peugeot 2008 Interior and Exterior. The front face adopts the latest Peugeot style codes, with panel fit and features working together seamlessly and precisely. Finely sculpted, the bonnet lines infer lightness, strength and protection of the Peugeot 2008, while the ‘floating grille’ face has a solidity of form with vertical elements to harness aerodynamic performance and efficiency. The innovative headlamps are designed precisely to reflect the technical functions. Sharp and precise, they act with the bodywork to given the outline appearance of a cat’s pupil. Sculpted, they are at one with the front face, giving it an even more expressive, technological and individual character. This look is emphasised by LED day running lamps.

The new urban crossover has elegant and sophisticated sculpted wings and sides, indicating clear athletic qualities. The generous glazed surfaces, including the panoramic roof, promise a spacious interior open to its surroundings.

The boot volume, with a low loading sill, has above it a roof line with dynamic curves, inspired by the RCZ. The wide tailgate is framed by lamps secured to the bodywork. Floating inside their housing, the three luminous claws are lit at their base by LEDs that appear suspended.

A roof wave line emerges above the rear seat position and sets the scene for an exclusive decoration cut into the metal. As if crimped to the bodywork, it is the origin of the spoiler in an extension of the same part, on the surface. The precise design of the roof bars puts the finishing touches to the concepts of dynamism and leisure expressed by the Peugeot 2008.

2014 Peugeot 2008 Engines and Transmission. The latest-generation engines draw the very essence of the lightness and profiled silhouette to offer an exceptional driving experience combined with a true breakthrough in terms of fuel economy. Due to the technology of the e-HDi Diesel and new 3-cylinder petrol engines, the Peugeot 2008 urban crossover stands out from the competition with CO2 starting from 99 g/km.

News: Ireland's Craig Breen takes rally top spot with Peugeot

Craig Breen, Super World Rally Championship winner 2012, will race in eight European Rally Championship (ERC) events this year and has landed the new Peugeot Sport Factory Rally Driver title. Craig's first rally event for 2013, competing in the colours of Peugeot Sport, will be at the Rally Liepaja-Ventspils, Latvia 1- 3 February.

Craig, Irish International Driver of the Year 2012, has long been loyal to Peugeot and is already very familiar with the 207 Super 2000, having driven it during many IRC events. The Rallye du Var, France, formed a fitting 2012 finale for Craig in his Peugeot 207 Super 2000, when the newly crowned SWRC Champion showcased all his capabilities and climbed from 6th to seize third podium position.

The performance rounded off a sensational 2012 season for Craig, who hails from Waterford,  and now his allegiance to Peugeot Sport continues.

Under his new Peugeot Sport partnership, Craig has been selected to take his place alongside two other young rally stars, Jérémi Ancian and Stéphane Lefebvre, at a new Peugeot Sport Rally Academy.

When not competing in the Peugeot 207 S2000, Craig will lead an intensive test programme for the new Peugeot 208 Type R5, destined for the ERC scene in late 2013.

On the announcement from Peugeot Sport, Craig Breen said, "This is incredible and beyond my dreams. I am really excited to work with a manufacturer like Peugeot Sport."

Craig has also contributed to the development of the Peugeot 208 R2, and he drove the "zero car" at the Ulster Rally in 2012. Peugeot Sport has confirmed 56 orders for the Peugeot 208 R2 across 14 countries, including one unit destined for Ireland later this month. Tipperary man, Andrew Slattery, will run the car in six events here in Ireland in 2013.

2014 Peugeot 208 GTi

Following the successful launch of the new 208 in June 2012, Peugeot has rejuvenated the diverse Supermini car segment. This new model revolutionises customer choice with its elegance, style, compactness, occupant space and equipment. The 208 has been an instant success and the Peugeot 208 GTi will deliver even stronger desirability with exhilaration, performance and panache.

Intended for demanding individuals, Peugeot 208 GTi owners will benefit from sophisticated choices of the materials and colours employed. The car's dynamism is expressed first of all by its external identity, specific and immediately recognisable, due to its characteristic posture. Defined on a widened track by 10mm at the front and 20mm at the rear, these three-door models are specially identified by bodywork components which enhance the overall effect, with wheels that hug the arches and with body sills and wing extensions that enhance its visual appearance.

Particularly eye catching and visible both by day and night, the light signature of the front face is refined by new halogen headlamps, equipped with a latest generation light guide. These carefully designed lamps with a rectangular internal structure use LED technology for the directional indicators and daytime lighting. Tightly enclosing the main beam headlamps, the floating trim of which calls to mind a cat's pupil, they give the expression of an iris.

These lamps frame a special 208 grille and on the GTi the mesh contributes to the dynamism, making the lamps stand out. The gloss black grille draws the eye with bright chrome inserts, which reinvent the sport chequered flag effect but in 3D. The end result is a front appearance which is technological and endearing while being sophisticated.

Attention to detail has also taken precedence in the design of the passenger compartment, to create a most pleasant environment. This applies even when stationary as it becomes evident at first glance when the door is opened, revealing the aluminium sill stamped with the Peugeot name. Dark colour schemes exist throughout the upper section and the Peugeot 208 GTi offers a unique ambiance themed with red highlights.

The dashboard houses a high-mounted instrument panel with an innovative and distinctive light signature. Echoing the LED functions of the headlamps, the dials are surrounded with satin chrome beads backlit by LEDs, whereas the needles move on a brushed aluminium background.

The passenger compartment is also punctuated with carefully designed components. So, the vents, the side decorations of the touchscreen, the dashboard decoration, the steering wheel insert, the seat belts, the front and rear door crossbars all blend with the same interior ambiance. The aluminium pedal bracket and footrest provide the final touch to this technological and refined interior.

Peugeot 208 GTi, re-generation of the legend

Peugeot has made its mark in the history of motor sport. Whether through its models, its success in competition or its infamy through advertising and promotions, the Marque's DNA has the best genes for creating the modern performance GTi. The expectation was simple: to create a playful and chic sports car, a contemporary interpretation of the legend that is a Peugeot GTi.

At first glance, the eyes are impressed initially by presence, with a vehicle which affirms its identity: sporty and refined. There can be no doubting the sportiness of this new 208 derivative. Crossing the gloss black rear skirt, the exhaust emerges with a trapezoid chromed double tailpipe, an innovative design emphasising the uniqueness of this model. The chromed trim strip decorates the window lower edge culminating in a signature accent that pays tribute to the illustrious 205 GTi.

Furthermore, the quarter panel trim proudly bears the GTi logo, in bright chrome accentuated in red highlights. Regardless of the exterior colour chosen, this red punctuates throughout the vehicle: on brake callipers, grille lower bead, Peugeot lettering on the tailgate and on the grille. In addition, the mesh of the grille has a 3D chequered motif, with chromed inserts in the gloss black grille. The whole is subtly enhanced by the touches of bright chrome on the fog lamp trim surrounds, the grille upper trim and the door mirrors.

Opening the doors reveals a passenger compartment that reflects the paintwork. From the sill, embossed with the name Peugeot, the passenger compartment is notably sporty. With a colour scheme combining red, black and satin chrome and red GTi overstitching throughout, the interior is striking, down to the smallest detail.

Resolutely sporty, the seat combines full grain Club Nappa leather and Caro Weave cloth, made more dynamic by a red line detail. The dashboard with red overstitching has a decoration of red graduating to black, matching the door crossbars. The vehicle performance information is provided via the high-mounted instrument panel. Technological, it is equipped with a colour matrix, surrounded by dials with a chromed bead back-lit in red by LEDs. On their brushed aluminium background, decorated with a gloss black chequered motif, the white needles rise through to the red zone.

The driver is well supported in the cossetting seat structure, harnessed in black seat belts (with red edging) allowing an excellent driving position that is clear and comfortable. The feet naturally find the aluminium pedals and footrest, the heels in contact with the unique 208 GTi floor mats with black surround and again, overstitched in red. Intuitively, the hands rest on the small black full grain perforated leather steering wheel with red overstitching. The left hand easily and naturally finds the aluminium gear lever knob, with red side insert and the overstitched leather handbrake lever.

"The 208 was an excellent base for developing a sports hatchback. We have worked with particular attention on the steering response, the chassis dynamics and the rigidity of the suspension. The Peugeot 208 GTi successfully combines performance, safety and driving pleasure." Marie Beaumont, 208 GTi Dynamics Manager

The Peugeot 208 GTi delights its driver with an incisive driving experience due to the involving chassis dynamics, providing superb driving sensations. Springs, calibration of the shock absorbers, anti-roll bar, enhanced front subframe and rear crossmember rigidity, plus that the suspension and wheels are specific to this latest Peugeot GTi.

Agile and reactive, the Peugeot 208 GTi balances from one turn to the next with complete precision. Controlled by the steering, the settings of which have been revised to increase firmness, the front suspension returns the information perfectly and responsively. The rear suspension is also well tuned for safe and involved driving. Fitted with 205/45 tyres, the 17" diamond Carbon wheels, with Storm paint and matt varnish, house 302mm ventilated discs at the front and 249mm at the rear. Cooled by dynamic air intakes, they provide controlled and incisive braking.

The 1.6-litre THP 200bhp petrol engine expresses itself through a reworked exhaust system. As soon as the ignition is switched on, it emits an appealing sound that delights the ears, at all engine speeds. Coupled with a manual gearbox with six, close-ratio gears, the engine draws the full potential from this chassis. With its maximum torque of 275Nm and its maximum power of 147kW (200bhp), the Peugeot 208 GTi has the potential of acceleration to the highest level. 0 to 62mph is reached in less than 7.0 seconds. In-gear re-acceleration is equally impressive, with the Peugeot 208 GTi accelerating from 50 to 75mph in less than 7.0 seconds in 5th gear. This performance benefits from the improvement achieved from lightening the weight of the vehicle.

Light in weight, at 1160kg, the Peugeot 208 GTi achieves a real feat by emitting CO2 at just 145g/km. A playful sports car, powerful and safe, with an enchanting sound, which is also a practical hatchback, the Peugeot 208 GTi will delight its drivers every day, the (fully disengageable) ESP watching over them.

An innovative concept

In a world which is constantly evolving and increasingly urban, a new generation of customers is emerging. Eager to always be on the move; they feed on dynamism. Agile, diverse, they can be found on every continent and are looking for products which reflect their personality.

Drawing strength from this observation, the Marque drew up a specification with ambitious objectives. From the start, it in corporated into the DNA of the crossover by Peugeot, which combines an accomplished driving experience, stylish design with practical advantages, the challenge of designing a vehicle intended for an international clientele across three geographic markets.

Peugeot rose to the challenge. Upmarket, dynamic, the new crossover by Peugeot offers a rich and varied experience in the B segment. So, at just 4.16m long, the Peugeot 2008 innovates by uniquely combining the driving characteristics of a hatchback and the strength of an SUV with an on-board area (passenger space, modularity and comfort) which invites you to enjoy each moment to the full. Equally at ease in town as on the open road, it can escape from the city with confidence due to its extended mobility features. Stimulating and versatile, the Peugeot 2008 suits all customers.

The Peugeot 2008 is to be produced close to its markets, in France (Mulhouse), in China (Wuhan) and in Brazil (Porto Real).

"In the 2008, the Marque has the vehicle which will secure its leadership in the segment in Europe and which will win new customers in Asia and Latin America." - Maxime Picat, Director General of Peugeot

"With the 2008, Peugeot is continuing its product offensive and capitalising on the success of the 3008 by offering a new crossover, urban and innovative, to win over an international clientele" - Xavier Peugeot, Peugeot Product Director

A unique style, combining elegance and strength

The Peugeot 2008 reinvents the standards of large-volume vehicles in the compact car segment. Innovative from first glance, it successfully merges the two worlds. The strong stylistic trend affirms its identity for practicality, volume and the driving experience available with 2008.

"Creating the 2008 was a real challenge though we had a very precise idea of the vehicle that we wanted to offer our customers. The style brought to life in an early phase remained true to the original design right up to production. The very first sketch was perfect - stylish and effective." - Eric Dejou, 2008 Style Manager

"The 2008 has succeeded in merging worlds and cultures to offer a style which goes beyond customer expectations." - Gilles Vidal, Peugeot Style Director

With its higher-driving position the Peugeot 2008, fitted with 'Mud&Snow' tyres, 17" 'Diamond' wheels with a matt finish, has pronounced wheel arches that give it an appealing road presence and stance. The black bumpers and body sills serve to protect it from abrasions with the addition of front and rear body protection and side mouldings in stainless steel.

The front face adopts the latest Peugeot style codes, with panel fit and features working together seamlessly and precisely. Finely sculpted, the bonnet lines infer lightness, strength and protection of the Peugeot 2008, while the 'floating grille' face has a solidity of form with vertical elements to harness aerodynamic performance and efficiency. The innovative headlamps are designed precisely to reflect the technical functions. Sharp and precise, they act with the bodywork to given the outline appearance of a cat's pupil.

The rear also combines strength with dynamism. The boot volume, with a low loading sill, has above it a roof line with dynamic curves, inspired by the RCZ. The wide tailgate is framed by lamps secured to the bodywork. Floating inside their housing, the three luminous claws are lit at their base by LEDs that appear suspended.

The dynamic and elegant movement of the roof is also a feature of the profile.

2013 Peugeot RCZ Coupe

Peugeot is increasing the appeal and exclusivity of its popular RCZ Sports Coupé. Sensuous and sleek, sporty and elegant, its new style promotes its power and fluidity, strength and refinement, and affirms its distinctive singularity in the Peugeot range.

Its richness of expression is greatly increased by an extended range of colour and material combinations, both to exterior and interior, which will allow each customer to construct 'their own' Peugeot RCZ. This increase in emotional power will continue in 2013 with the introduction of a powerful 1.6-litre THP 260bhp version with enhanced performance.

The Peugeot RCZ fully embodies the new signature of Peugeot: MOTION & EMOTION. It is the most visible expression of the Marque's expertise:
  • Expertise with its 'Design Style' - with a very strong design
  • Expertise in producing 'High Quality' products with exclusive positioning
  • Expertise with strong 'Dynamic' standards to combined ride and handling.

The Peugeot RCZ has already created a desirable following with strong sales, excellent press coverage, and achievements in competition. It has won numerous awards from the public and the specialist press, in various countries, for its design, desirability and performance.

Adapted for competition from 2010 with a 200bhp HDi FAP diesel engine, it has twice won the D1T category (1700 to 2000cc diesel) at the 24 Hours Nürburgring.

Increase in emotional power

In this very specific market segment of sports coupés, the 'enthusiasts' of attractive cars with a distinctive style identity, dynamic capability and sportiness, are also aware of innovation.

They are looking for the latest, most attractive creation around a radical coupé, so it is necessary to renew and improve, responding to the constantly moving trend of this market. Strengthened by its success, less than three years after its commercial launch, the emblematic sports coupé of the Peugeot marque is adopting a new distinctive identity to embody more than ever the range enhancement and to embrace the MOTION & EMOTION signature of Peugeot.

The new RCZ will go on sale during the 1st quarter of 2013.

Exterior and interior emotion

The rejuvenation of the Peugeot RCZ can be seen first of all through its style. From the initial sketches, the intention was to give this new RCZ a modern style, even more exclusive and unique than the current range.

A completely new front face, sporty and flowing, fully emphasises the power of its rear wings and the sensuous curves of its 'double-bubble' roof. This new synergy between the front and rear gives the bodywork an entirely new expression. The central air intake, now subtle and elegant, is enlivened by two satin chrome bars and provides the effect of strength and refinement.

The new grille is accentuated by a lower air intake which is extended on each side by a unique light signature, visible both day and night. This consists of six LEDs, subtly sculpted in the form of claws, behind a smoked lens which blends into a gloss black surround.

The new Peugeot RCZ adopts an expression with flowing contours, both modern and technical, with new headlamps available in a halogen version with an Aluminium background or a directional Xenon version with a Titanium background.

The new appearance provides the Peugeot RCZ with a new posture: well poised as well as having a unique identity, with a combination of enhanced power and sensuous expression. The interior has evolved to enhance features in detail, in particular:
  • the gear lever surround which is now lacquered black,
  • on GT models the door trim pads are trimmed with leather inserts, and two aluminium inserts adorn the dashboard / centre console.

Real everyday practicality

The Peugeot RCZ has always been very practical, with a generous volume boot for its category, having a capacity of 384 litres, to which are added storage compartments under its floor (more than 30 litres extra). Folding the back of the two additional rear seats increases the maximum carrying capacity of the vehicle to 760 litres.

Fashionable exclusivity

The rejuvenation of the Peugeot RCZ is also expressed through an enhanced option range, consistent with its exclusive positioning, which allows each customer to create 'their own' vehicle character, making it a unique object reflecting their personality and taste.

Exterior personalisation

The new RCZ has many personalisation components:
  • A new lacquered black grille bars option, instead of the standard satin chrome bars, to give this new Peugeot RCZ a different face;
  • Three roof arch colours: Aluminium, Sand or the new Matt Black;
  • A new 'Black Pack' groups together the new Matt Black arches and black grille bars with black brake callipers, and black exterior mirrors − components which are all also available separately;
  • Three new types of bodywork Decals: a wide gloss black central stripe crossing the vehicle, grey and red lateral stripes on the body sills bearing the word 'RCZ', a silver grey off-set stripe crossing the vehicle from front to back;
  • Two Carbon Roof options with a Matt or Satin finish;
  • Ten alloy wheel designs, including two new designs:
  • Sport model has 18" wheels and are available in three colours; Classic (standard), Dark Grey (two-tone diamond/dark grey) or Full Pirit Grey (mid grey);
  • 19" Sortilège wheels (GT models) are available in three colours; Classic, Midnight Silver (dark grey) and Matt Black Onyx;
  • 19" Solstice wheels are available in two colours, Anthra Grey (two-tone diamond/dark grey) or Matt Black Onyx (two-tone diamond/black)
  • Two new 19" alloy wheel designs, Technical, two-tone diamond, modern and sculptural, available in two colours Grey (dark grey) and Héphaïs (mid grey)
  • A Sports Pack, standard on the Sport and GT with the THP 200 petrol engine, includes a smaller diameter steering wheel, a shorter-throw gear lever and the 'Sound System' feature (available as an option on the THP 156 manual model).

Colours and trims

The range of colours consists of eight options, two of which are new; to the Opal White, Pearlescent White, Nera Black, Mercury Grey, Charcoal Grey and Dolphin Blue, are added new colours: Bistre and Moroccan Red.

Dynamic emotion and efficiency

With controlled weight, carefully designed aerodynamics and modern engine technology, the Peugeot RCZ has established itself as an innovative mix of performance but with respect for the environment.

Modern and ecological engines

Its range of efficient engines, as regards both performance (generous torque and power) and consumption and emissions of CO2, is carried forward:
  • 1.6-litre THP 200; 147kW (200bhp) Euro 5, 275Nm, 6-speed manual - CO2: 155g/km and 42.1mpg (6.7 l/100 km)
  • 2.0-litre HDi 163 FAP; 120kW (163bhp) Euro 5, 340Nm, 6-speed manual - CO2: 139g/km and 53.2mpg (5.3 l/100 km)
  • 1.6-litre THP 156 manual; 115kW (156bhp) Euro 5, 240Nm, 6-speed manual - CO2: 149g/km and 44.1mpg (6.4 l/100 km)
  • 1.6-litre THP 156 automatic; 115kW (156bhp) Euro 5, 240Nm, 6-speed automatic - CO2: 168g/km and 38.6mpg (7.3 l/00 km)

Driving sensations and precision

Expressing all of Peugeot's expertise in terms of road holding, the Peugeot RCZ takes the requirement of driving with precision and obtaining sensations to the highest level for the Marque, to intensify all of the driver's senses.

It benefits from tuned suspension and wheels originating from Platform Two (pseudo MacPherson front suspension, rear suspension with a deformable cross-member).

Increasing the effectiveness of this assembly, it has a particularly low ride height and centre of gravity, widened track and generous tyre choice (18" or 19" wheels).

The active rear aero spoiler also contributes to this performance, deployed in two positions according to the speed of the vehicle to ensure aerodynamics and stability.

Finally, when the Peugeot RCZ is fitted with the THP 200 engine the front suspension incorporates bigger hubs and a special lower bracing bar to enhance road handling, making it more agile and aiding cornering stability.

Sound System technology

The 'acoustic signature of the engine' has also been enhanced aided by 'Sound System' technology (standard on the Sport THP 156 manual, and Sport and GT models with the THP 200 petrol engine models). It amplifies the characteristic sound of the engine through a controlled diaphragm that resonates and the vibration noise is louder as the revs of the engine rise during acceleration, while being less pronounced with more regular driving.

New standard or optional equipment

The new Peugeot RCZ is now fitted as standard, with an acoustic windscreen and a Visibility Pack consisting of automatic wipers, automatic headlamps, electrochromatic interior mirror, guide-me-home lighting and approach lighting on unlocking.

Audio and Sat Nav options on Peugeot RCZ are enhanced with the availability of Peugeot Connect Navigation (RT6). First introduced on 508, it incorporates:
  • .navigation with large 7" screen (WVGA high resolution 800 x 480 pixels) offering a perspective view mode and a European map (stored in the internal memory);
  • a CD player on the control panel, MP3 compatible;
  • a three-tuner radio with two aerials, reception of RDS-TMC traffic info (TrafficMaster in the United Kingdom);
  • a Bluetooth® connection for the hands-free telephone function and audio streaming;

Another innovation offered on the Peugeot RCZ, the RT6 system now incorporates the Arkamys© software which processes the digital audio signal to recreate a natural sound stage. The quality of the sound no longer suffers from the restrictions of the location of the speakers in the doors (which often results in sounds in the lower side areas): the instruments and voices are more harmoniously positioned in the space, facing the occupants, at windscreen level. This system also provides the option of directing the sound for the driver only or for all the passengers.

And coming soon… the 'RCZ R'

Striving to be at the top of this exclusive, dynamic and sporty range, the 'RCZ R Concept' is unveiled at the Paris Motor Show. In a matt black and copper livery it echoes another Concept Car unveiled at the show: the 'Onyx' supercar.

The 'RCZ R Concept' previews a future version of enhanced sportiness, which will be introduced to the range at the end of 2013.

The Peugeot Sport and PSA Group Development teams are working together to adapt technology originating from the world of motor sport to make a production ready vehicle and once again turn a dream into reality.

Its new 1.6-litre THP 260bhp engine will make it the most powerful production model in Peugeot's history. A specific power of more than 160bhp/litre, among the highest in the world for a production vehicle, and CO2 emissions of approximately 155g/km, position it in a range of new high efficiency. Coherent with this engine, special suspension and wheels combined with a Torsen® limited slip differential promise dynamic and effective sensations of a very high level.

A special exterior signature and interior treatment will perfect this version with a high level of performance assured to offer intense driving sensations.

2013 Peugeot 508 RXH

The Peugeot 508 RXH represents the new, up market positioned Peugeot. It sees the launch of an identity that combines the traditional designation of Peugeot models, incorporating the central zero, and three letters that characterise the Marques specialist vehicles. This new model both heads up and extends the 508 range, with an original design silhouette, justifying its exclusive designation - RXH.

A distinctive appeal

The Peugeot 508 RXH styling has its own distinctive character within the 508 range. Its elegance and style place it immediately in an exclusive world that combines premium-positioning, technology with the ability to experience adventure and promises of a new and unparalleled driving experience.

With a 40 mm wider track and its height increased by 50 mm, this new Peugeot has an individual stance, without sacrificing the characteristics of the 508 range - poise, elegance and status. The use of new, 18" forged wheel rims allowed designers to create a very fine wheel design with an internal diameter increased by 10 mm in comparison with conventional wheel rims. The result is a dynamic and elegantly enhanced body style.

Its adventurous side profile is illustrated through the bodywork extensions in satin stealth grey that envelope the lower body of the car. From the bottom of the front bumper, the line extends over the wheel arches, along the sill panels to meet the rear bumper. The choice of the satin trim finishers contribute to position this estate car within a refined world, as do the satin chrome inserts, with 'HYbrid4' badging, that adorns the sill panel, and front and rear protective trims. Fully integrated, they reflect the integrity applied to the cohesive design of the Peugeot 508 RXH.

This individual personality is more striking at the front end, which has become even more expressive while maintaining the strength of the brand's new style aesthetics. Accompanying a wider and taller body silhouette, the grille is extended on its lower edge. More strikingly, the new grille accentuates the illusion that it is 'floating' within the aperture. To achieve this, designers have taken influence from aviation reference points, notably taking inspiration from aircraft jet engine cowls. The air therefore seems to be well-channelled around the grille, which stands out distinctly from the bonnet line.

Its distinctive style lines give the Peugeot 508 RXH a very individual visual identity. It is the first Peugeot to use the iconic theme of the 'claw' on the front. Its LED daytime running lights illuminate to form three 'lion claws', instantly recognisable by day and by night to reinforce the characteristic 'feline' appearance of the head lamps. This unique and dynamic signature is complemented with the illumination of seven orange LEDs, from within the LED tube that is an original directional indicator function.

Like the 508 SW, the lines flow together in a harmonious and dynamic manner, falling back to a rear that is well seated on its haunches. The extensive panoramic glass roof has the benefit of being a continuation of the windscreen, with the profiled aluminium roof bars merging with the bodywork to enhance the exclusivity of the car. In this spirit, there are flush surfaces, highlighted by its high build quality finish. At the rear, the lights portray an elegant red band that glows brightly when the lights are on.

Refined interior styling and technology

The styling of the dashboard is centred heavily around the qualities evoked by the exterior design of the vehicle, with continued illustrations of high quality, purity, elegance, etc. Its design supports a multiplex centre console with switchgear that is equipped with technology designed to provide easy control to a host of features.

This purity and simplicity of design and integration is best demonstrated on the HYbrid4 drive mode selection knob and the gear selector lever. It has the design that combines the traditional gear selector lever and a computer mouse called the 'manettino' - it fits perfectly into this pure and technological environment.

White backlighting is available throughout the Peugeot 508 RXH interior (on the instrument panel, displays and the various lighting zones within the car), showing great care in detail and finish. It is this and the attention to detail that illustrates the hallmarks of the latest Peugeot range.

The car's internal trim and decor have been created in harmony, evoking elegance without ostentation. The use of natural materials and colours, sometimes exclusively, enhance the distinctive character of the 508 RXH. Brushed aluminium and shaded lacquers are used on the dashboard for the first time in this way. A spectacular treatment in keeping with the electricity supplied by HYbrid4 technology, this decor is specified in tinted shades of copper. This theme, again unprecedented, is subtly continued throughout the interior with matching trim stitching in this copper shade. The exterior is also themed with a copper colour theme through the colouring of the lock tumblers in Calern Brown, a shade exclusive to the Peugeot 508 RXH.

The choice of light-coloured alcantara leather and an innovative laser-printed fabric creates a two-tone upholstery that reinforces the refined image of the car. Depending on preference, the customer may opt for full leather or half-leather upholstery.

The next generation enhances driving emotion

HYbrid4 technology also opens up new perspectives in the segment with a breakthrough in improved fuel consumption - 67.2 mpg and CO2 emissions of less than 109 g/km in the Combined Drive Cycle with a completely silent electric mode with zero emissions; ideal for driving around town efficiently.

In terms of performance, Peugeot 508 RXH benefits from the efficiency and power of its internal combustion engine combined with the electric motor during acceleration phases for an immediate increase in power (the 'boost' function maximises performance and available power in the Sport mode). The maximum combined power can reach 147 kW (200bhp) by combining the 120 kW (163 bhp) from the 2.0 l HDi FAP diesel engine and the 'on-demand' peak power of the 27 kW (37 bhp) electric motor. Up to 300 Nm of torque is delivered to the front wheels by the HDi diesel unit and up to 200 Nm to the rear wheels with the electric motor. The maximum combined value however is 450 Nm at lower road speeds, which guarantees excellent traction in most driving conditions including low-grip surfaces like snow and dirt roads, providing customers of this all-wheel drive estate car to comfortably go much further than ever before.

A car manufactured in France

The Peugeot 508 RXH is manufactured in Rennes, with the modular hybrid rear drive axle being assembled and supplied from Mulhouse, and is scheduled for UK release in spring 2012.
