Sonus faber Sound System For The Pagani Huayra Debuts In Geneva

A few weeks back, Pagani began to tease something new for its Huayra supercar. While the initial video tricked us into believing that the Italian manufacturer was about to launch an open-air version of the Huayra, it was really teasing a new partnership with high-end audio firm Sonus faber.

Pagani Huayra

If you’re not in the Pagani-buying demographic, chances are you may not have heard of Sonus faber. Like Pagani’s automobiles, its critically-acclaimed loudspeakers are built for optimal performance, often without regard to cost (though, in fairness, its lower-end models are priced on par with other premium offerings).

Another similarity is that the range-topping Sonus faber Homage Series models are as much about art as they are about performance, which is why the audio brand is a perfect choice for inclusion in Horacio Pagani’s no-compromise automobiles.

As GT Spirit tells us, the first Sonus faber-equipped Pagani Huayra will be displayed at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. The system features amplifiers totaling 1,200-watts in output (three times the output of a standard Huayra audio system), as well as speakers designed both for optimum sound and light weight.

Speaker cones are constructed from carbon fiber, while powerful-but-light neodymium magnets help deliver optimal performance. A Digital Sound Processor function allows occupants to select the type of listening experience they prefer based upon the type of music, ranging from an intimate concert hall to an open-air stadium.

There’s no word on exactly how much the Sonus faber audio option will add to the price of a Pagani Huayra, but we’ll go ahead and ask the question: if you’re spending upwards of a million dollars on a new supercar, are you going to cheap out when it comes to the audio system?

Lykan Hypersport is the Arab World's First Supercar, Costs $3.4 Million and has 750hp

With a voracious appetite for all kinds of supercars and plenty of wealth to sustain it thanks to its oil-rich real estate, it shouldn't come to as a surprise that the Arab world has finally managed to produce its own hypercar in the guise of W Motors's Lykan Hypersport, which was introduced at this week's Qatar Motor Show.

While many questions remain unanswered, what we do know about the Beirut-based company's edgy-looking (some may say, Lamborghini-esque) Lykan Hypersport is that only seven cars will be produced, each carrying a base sticker price of $3.4 million (about €2.4 million at today's exchange rates), which includes a $200,000 limited edition Cyrus Klepcy watch.

The Lykan Hypersport comes with a twin-turbocharged flat-six engine (likely sourced from Porsche) with 750-horsepower positioned behind the driver and can reach 100km/h (62mph) in 2.8 seconds before topping out at 395km/h (245mph) – yep, you're not the only one thinking about 'hagwalah' right now…

Other notable features include a world first diamond-encrusted LED lights, gold-stitched leather and what the company describes as a Virtual Holographic Display for the instrument panel.

World's first Arabian supercar already has over 100 orders

Last summer brought word that the Middle East was finally getting its own homegrown supercars in the form of two all-new vehicles – the Hypersport and Supersport – from W Motors. Now, just weeks after its official debut at the 2013 Qatar Motor Show, we are learning more details about its initial release, aptly called the Lykan Hypersport.

Its appearance is radical (looking a bit as if it were penned by Lamborghini), but it more than substantiates its performance. According to the automaker, the Hypersport will boast a twin-turbo flat-six generating about 750 horsepower and 737 pound-feet of torque. The mid-mounted engine will propel the Arab supercar to 60 miles per hour in a blistering 2.7 seconds as it heads towards a top speed of 245 mph.

W Motors has reportedly already taken over 100 orders for the two-seater that will initially be assembled in Italy (production will move to the Middle East later). Before you reach for your checkbook, keep in mind that the list price on the Hypersport is a very Middle East-like $3.4 million. Yes, each.

News: McLaren's P1 supercar hits the test track

It was almost exactly 20 years ago that we car enthusiasts were getting all girlishly excited about the prospect of McLaren's first ever road car, the original F1. That went on to be the fastest car in the world, and to win Le Mans at its first attempt. So just imagine how excited we are at the prospect of this, the P1, McLaren's successor to the F1...

Just 500 of this amazing looking car will be built, and while its engine is structurally similar to the 3.8-litre V8 turbo that's in the existing MP4-12-C supercar, not only will the P1 get a power boost, it will also get a hybrid KERS setup that will boost power again for overtaking bursts. Quite what you'd need an overtaking burst to get past in one of these remains unexplained. A Veyron perhaps?

Anyway, expect power to be at least 750-800bhp, and with all the active aerodynamics and computer controlled suspension that you'd expect from McLaren. And judging from the still-camouflaged styling (why, when they showed the car un-disguised at the Paris Motor Show last year?) it will look remarkably like being violated by a Le Mans racer when it does overtake you, boost or no boost.

Enjoy the photos and check out the video too. It spits fire...

News: Porsche's ground breaking 918 gets a price tag

Porsche's 918 Spyder supercar, which claims to offer the performance of a true road-racer with the emissions of a Prius, has officially gone on sale... but only in the US for now. We Europeans will have to wait just a little longer for a price tag for our dream car.
And the price tag for American Porsche-philes? $845, 000, or around €634,000, and yes, that's before taxes, delivery and related charges. Wow. Time to start a Post Office savings account, chaps...

Of course, this being a German car, that $845k is just the starting point. There are extras...

If you want the track-focused 'Weissach Pack' which lowers the car's weight by around 34kg, you're going to have to find $929,000 down the back of the sofa. And things like those retro-seventies Martini racing stripes will cost a wee bit more too.

Still, with a reported output of 729bhp and a plug-in hybrid transmission that allows you to cruise around town in silent, zero-emissions mode, perhaps knocking on for a million dollars is cheap at the price, really.

News: Merc's AMG E-Class gets boost to 585bhp

Mercedes' updated E-Class will now be available with a 585bhp wunder-weapon E63 AMG version.
The hot AMG versions of the new-look E-Class saloon and estate will now be made available as a 'standard' (if that's quite the right word) version with a BMW M5-bothering 557bhp and 720Nm of torque from an updated version of the 5.5-litre twin-turbo V8 engine. But there will also now be an S model, with a whopping 585bhp and 800Nm of torque, from a tweaked version of the same engine. That one will accelerate this large, comfy, four door saloon (or estate) from 0-100kmh in just 3.6secs. That's not far off McLaren F1 supercar pace.

The S model will also get a locking rear-diff as standard (which should lead to some interesting on-track moments...) Both models can be fitted with massive 420mm ceramic brake discs as an option, while inside, the cars will be fitted with a high-end Bang & Olufsen sound system and a specially-designed IWC dash clock.

Mercedes' 4Matic four wheel drive will also be available as an option, which sound like it might be a good idea for the 585bhp S version, but there's no official word yet on whether you'll be able to have 4Matic with right-hand-drive.
